This lighting techniques was used for our entry for 2012 Matrix Destination Fame competition where our entry finished in the top 12 in the UK.
The lighting for the model was 2 softboxes either side of the model, to light both sides of the face. The softboxes are pointed slightly towards the camera and masked by 2 polyboards (black side out) Our polyboards are 8′ x 4′ painted white on one side and black on the other side.

The techniques is very simple and uses 2 Lencarta heads with wide honeycoms or grids. The lights are placed either side of your subject at equal distance from the subject and at the same power settings.
