Hairdressing / Fashion Lighting technique

This lighting techniques was used for our entry for 2012 Matrix Destination Fame competition where our entry finished  in the top 12 in the UK.

The lighting for the model was 2 softboxes either side of the model, to light both sides of the face. The softboxes are pointed slightly towards the camera and masked by 2 polyboards (black side out)  Our polyboards are 8′ x 4′ painted white on one side and black on the other side.

The black polyboards stop the light reflecting back into the subject and gives the dark centre in the models face.

The blue background was created using two direct heads pointing towards it with light blue gels, onto white colorama paper.

The last effect light is a head directly behind the models head pointing through the umbrella towards the camera.

The light is approx 1m from the model.
